Today’s cupping was from an abundant selection of great roasters. We ended up trying coffee from Ritual, Batdorf & Bronson, and Dallis Coffee, with some surprising results!
#1 Ritual Coffee Roasters Finca Yara, Colombia
- Dry: dark chocolate, walnuts, bacon, cinnamon x3, cardamom, earthy, spinach, soy sauce, tomato, red grape skin
- Break: banana cream, apple cider, cinnamon, dark chocolate, creme brulee
- Brightness: tart, tomato
- Flavor: tomato, stewy, honey, cantaloupe, chocolate, apples, muted sweetness, root beer
- Body: mild/medium, thinner-ish
- Aftertaste: lingering sweetness
#2 Batdorf and Bronson, Costa Rica Tarrazu Shb El Indio
- Dry: caramel, nutty x2, peanut brittle, butter, maple syrup, figs
- Break: chocolate-covered raisins, corn, anise, caramel, chocolate milk
- Brightness: lower but balanced, toasty
- Flavor: plum x2, coconut, walnut, woodsy, chocolate
- Body: thick but sticky, flat soda, full-bodied
- Aftertaste: more sticky, less pleasant, sour, better on cool
#3 Dallis Coffee, Ethiopian Sidamo (not listed on website)
- Dry: raspberry, hibiscus x3, tea, cake, white sugar, blueberries, cranberry juice, chocolate-covered blueberries
- Break: super fruity
- Brightness: light but dense in body, very bright, blackberry undertones
- Flavor: chocolate-covered blueberries, lemony, nutty, berries, spices, apples, cinnamon, tart berry
- Body: light, thin but dry
- Aftertaste: peanut, dryer, tart, lemon, slow fade
