Barista Fundamentals

The Barista Fundamentals are four core courses designed to launch the career of Baristas and cafe owners to be. These 4 four courses, taken as 1 coffee-knowledge course and a 3-part espresso and milk steaming course series, will provide a core foundation of knowledge as well as a practical tool kit to use in any commercial espresso bar setting. This course is designed to mirror the body of knowledge required to complete the Barista Guild of America’s Level 1 certification, a nationally recognized credential for professional baristas.

Each course in the series is 3 hours in length and is limited to 5 students to ensure ample time for practice, dialogue, and constructive feedback on individual progress. Students who complete the Level 1 series also receive 2 books, 1 Latte Art DVD, and several handouts with practical information to bring back to their cafe.

Who should take this course:

  • Baristas new to the industry
  • Cafe owners to be
  • Professional baristas seeking to pass the BGA Level 1 exam
  • Barista trainers and advanced baristas seeking a comprehensive refresher and further skills for improved internal trainings
  • Home baristas looking for the most comprehensive approach to espresso preparation

When baristas have completed this series, baristas will:

  • Practice proper maintenance procedures for espresso machines and grinders
  • Taste, evaluate and prepare espressos to Specialty Coffee Association of America standards
  • Properly steam milk and pour latte art

In addition, students who complete this course and pass the BGA level 1 exam can save cafes an average of $9000 per year by developing skills that reduce waste and increase speed behind the espresso bar. These courses establish a thorough training foundation for smaller cafes seeking to save time and expenses related to training and offer a substantial return on investment. For Job-seeking baristas, these courses advance your credentials and gives your resume an advantage above the competition. Show your employers your dedication to the craft by earning your BGA Level 1 certification and pursuing further professional development, and watch your job prospects grow!
