Hands on Espresso Tier II

Are you ready to take espresso preparation to the next level? Our Hands-On Tier II course investigates advanced topics in espresso theory and their practical applications on the espresso bar. Baristas will leave with a confidence to quickly troubleshoot and adjust any espresso using advanced skills of observation, technique and pallette training. In addition, students will learn practical steps that increase their speed in making adjustments and prevent common mistakes when making changes on-the-fly. Special attention will be spent on advising baristas how to use their specific equipment, tips for their espresso blends in their cafes, and reducing espresso waste. Professional baristas who successfully complete this course can expect to save their cafes approximately $4,000 in costs annually. In addition, TampTamp instructors hope to inspire every barista to continue their exploration of espresso long after course work is completed. Each student will receive an instructional handout to provide ongoing support after students leave the course and return to their cafes.

By the end of this course, students can:

  • Describe how different distribution and dosing methods effect extraction qualities and flavors
  • Differentiate flavor profiles between espresso blends and apply that knowledge during grind adjustment
  • Integrate dosing and grind adjustment techniques to quickly prepare espressos in rapid sequence
  • Evaluate poorly prepared espressos and explain how to solve the issue.

Course is limited to 4 students per session. Students must be certified as Level 1 Baristas by the Barista Guild of America.
